Day 356: The Dark Days Are Coming (Nahum, Revelation 13)

The book of Nahum is full of woe, wrath and destruction. It’s not a pleasant read, and I’m sure most Christians don’t ever get around to reading or studying it. But there are beautiful gems of grace sprinkled among the passages:

“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him.” -Nahum 1:7

What a reminder this is to us that even in the midst of darkness, God is still good. But then verse 8 reminds that even God’s goodness has a limit when humans unabashedly continue in their corrupt and evil ways:

“But with an overflowing flood He will make an utter end of its place, and darkness will pursue His enemies.”

Because although our God is slow to wrath and ready to forgive, He will by no means acquit the wicked. When people blatantly disregard God’s instructions and continually sin against Him, eventually, there will be consequences. One day soon, God will come to judge the earth and its inhabitants.

For some, that is a scary thought – especially after reading prophecies like this book that show the depth of God’s jealousy and wrath. But like with Sodom and Gomorrah, God will spare the righteous. He will cover with His protection those who remain faithful to Him and trust in Him. Tens of thousands will fall to your left and right, but you will be under His protection. Terror, war, natural disasters will continue to take the lives of many, but remember that this life is only temporary and the righteous will inherit the Kingdom of God. For our lives are hidden in Him.

So, don’t worry about the threats and disasters that, unfortunately, have become common in our world today. You are hidden under the wings of the Almighty. He will not allow harm to come to you. There will be hardships, but He will be your strength. Because you can’t lose a life that you’ve already given to Christ. You are now His and whatever happens around us, won’t touch His children.
