Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. -Psalm 19:14
Would you change the way you live if you knew that every word and thought would be examined by God first?
As women, we are especially prone to let destructive thoughts roam in our minds. Like when you keep thinking you’re fat, ugly, unsuccessful, not worthy, or useless. Many of us fill our days with these thoughts. For other women, gossip is a constant presence.
That is why we must remember that our words and thoughts have power. As such, we must have control over all that we think and say. In Philippians 4:8, we are told to meditate on whatever things are true, noble, pure, lovely, of good report and anything praiseworthy. Which means a lot of our regular thoughts and insecurities don’t fit into any of those categories.
So, how do we fill our minds and mouths with the good things, not the bad? As Joshua 1:8 says, meditate on His word day and night. Memorize Scriptures that you can recite in the moments when the lies of how fat or ugly you are start to fill your head. Or if you find yourself negatively talking about another person or gossiping, learn to turn to prayer – pray blessings over that person and choose not to participate in the gossip around you. Finally, as you begin each day, determine that God’s love will guide what you say and how you think.
