“Jesus answered to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.'” -John 8: 34-36
We’ve all had at least one sin that seems like it would forever haunt us. We fight it for years; there are times it seems that we’ve won, but the reprieve is temporary as in a moment of weakness it comes back stronger than ever before. I don’t know what this sin is for you; it could be an addiction to pornography, drugs, alcohol, worldly entertainment; or it could be envy, hatred, or anything else in this world that holds you bondage.
But what I do know is that our God is stronger. Notice how Jesus distinguishes sin and Truth: a slave is temporary, a daughter is permanent; sin enslaves, the Truth sets you free…forever.
We all sin, but that is not the end of the story. Because when Jesus gets involved, He sets us free. Even when choose to go back to that sin, back to those shackles…He will still come back and rescue us; again and again. Until it sinks into our minds and hearts that we are indeed free. That the shackles have been taken off and we can finally fly.
You are free darling. That sin ain’t got nothin’ on your God. Because you are a daughter of the King of Kings. Even if you’ve spent all your life enslaved to sin, you can still find freedom. You can still come home.
