I love the heading of this chapter in my Bible: “An Adulteress Faces the Light of the World.” Not just Jesus; or even the King. But the Light of the World embodied in human flesh.
“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.'” -John 8:12
The light of the world rescued this woman. When she faced certain death – a brutal and torturous death – there He was: a bright, shining light of mercy and hope.
He does the same for you and I. But as we walk through this life, we forget that. We think that somehow we deserve to have those stones thrown at us by others as they judge us and our actions. We think there is no way we could know our purpose and calling in this world. Some days, we might even welcome the darkness, because it’s comforting and lukewarm; plus, it hides our imperfections and sins.
But there He is: the Light of the World. You can choose to follow Him or you can choose not to. But if you choose to follow Him, you will walk in the light.
There is no confusion in the light (1 Corinthians 14:33). There is no condemnation (John 8:11). There is life though; and peace. There is mercy and hope. And everyone is always welcomed by the Light of the World.
